Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Why is the mare care so expensive?  It doesn't cost this much to feed a horse.
A:    Mare care not only covers the cost of feed, but if your horse is stalled, it also covers bedding and the time it takes to care for the horse.  Even if your horse is pastured, there are still costs that need to be covered, such as insurance to protect both mare and stallion owner, the upkeep of our facility to insure great care of your mare, and our time.

Q:    What is a booking fee?
A:    A booking fee is paid BEFORE breeding to guarantee and hold a spot for your mare.  We can only breed a certain amount of mares per year, and the booking fee will make sure that your mare is one of them.  For example, if your mare does not take, and needs to come back again, we'll make sure there is room for her.

Q:    What is the difference between wet and dry mare care?
A:    Wet mare care is when a mare is being bred back and has a foal at her side.  Dry mare care is when there is no foal to care for.

Q:    How long will my mare have to stay with you?
A:    A mare comes into heat every 21 days, so it depends on where she is in her cycle as to how long she will have to stay.

Q:    What does LFG mean?
A:    LFG stands for Live Foal Guarantee.  Which means if the foal is unable to stand and nurse, still born, dies, or needs to be euthanized within 48 hours of birth, mare owner is entitled to a rebreed at no cost other than mare care.  (This is only valid with a written certificate from a veterinarian.)
